Palm Burning
Tuesday, March 1st.
This morning our Preschool-Eighth Grade Students joined Father Tom in front of St. Mary Church for our yearly palm burning prayer service. The students reflected on how the palm branches from last year's Palm Sunday become the ashes that Father Tom and Father Matt will bless foreheads with tomorrow, on Ash Wednesday.
Merciful God, you called us from the dust of the earth,
and claimed us for Christ in the waters of Baptism. Look upon us
as we prepare for the 40 days of Lent by burning these palms to
create the ashes that will mark us as penitents. Bless our journey
through the desert of Lent to the waters of new birth at Easter.
May our fasting be a hunger for justice; our alms, a way of making
peace; our prayer, the song of humble and thankful hearts. All that
we do and pray is in the name of Jesus, for in his cross you
proclaim your love forever and ever.Amen.

Thank you to Mrs. Sikora for helping our students to honor and remember their loved ones who have passed away. The Day of the Dead is unlike any holiday where mourning is exchanged for celebration.
Dia de Los Muertos is a two-day holiday that reunites the living and dead. Families create Ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored.

New Unified Parish Name
Tuesday, May 11th.
Suggestions were given, preferences chosen, choices were discerned, and a decision was made by Cardinal Cupich.
Beginning July 1, 2021, the name of our newly unified parish is St. Paul VI. This name will encompass St. Mary Church, St. Mary School and Mater Christi Church and the people of St. Hugh Parish. Our churches and school retain their own names as part of Saint Paul VI Parish.
We are blessed to have as our patron a saint and the Pope who implemented the Second Vatican Council. Saint Paul VI was Pope from 1963-1978. He had great devotion to Mary and was a champion of evangelization. We can honor Saint Paul VI by taking to heart his words,”
Those who have received the Good News and who have been gathered by it into the community of salvation can and must communicate and spread it.” Saint Paul VI, pray for us!

First Sunday of Advent
Sunday, November 29th
St. Mary School celebrates the 1st Sunday of Advent.
Lord our God,
we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ:
he is Emmanuel, the hope of the people,
he is the wisdom that teaches and guides us,
he is the Savior of every nation.
Lord God, let your blessing come upon us
as we light the candles of this wreath.
May the wreath and it’s light
be a sign of Christ’s promise to bring us salvation. May he come quickly and not delay.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen. -
Small Business Saturday
Saturday, November 28th
St. Mary supports Small Business Saturday. The holiday shopping is not complete without supporting the community.
Our local communities are built on the success of small businesses. The family-owned shops and restaurants provide much-needed services, personal customer service, as well as job opportunities.
During the annual holiday shopping spree, it is important to recognize these local treasures. Pick up last-minute trinkets, order carryout, or get a gift card for someone’s favorite local eatery.
Happy Shopping!
