St. Mary Girl's Volleyball Program
This program welcomes all girls enrolled in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade at St. Mary School. Registration typically takes place in December, with the season beginning around mid-January and ending the last week of April.
There are a few things that will be important for you to know:
Girls Volleyball at St. Mary is a "no cut" sport; any 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade girl interested in learning the sport, willing to work hard, and wants to be a part of a team is welcome. Practices and games are typically scheduled in the evening and sometimes on Saturdays. 7th & 8th grade may have one or two weekend tournaments.
Below is a summary of skill goals by grade.
Parents of players should plan on volunteering at least one game during the season by helping to set up/break down the gym or keep score.
General playing time guidelines
- 5th Grade – All players at this grade level are considered to be at the development level of their respective sport. Players should receive equal playing time over the course of the regular season according to effort. If attendance, effort, and attitude are lacking, the head coach may alter the individual's playing time accordingly.
- 6th Grade – This is a transitional year, progressing from the developmental to competitive. All players will receive meaningful playing time over the course of the season according to effort. There will be no playing time requirements during the playoffs and tournaments. If attendance, effort, and attitude are lacking, the head coach may alter the individual's playing time accordingly.
- 7th and 8th Grade – These grades are competitive levels with playing time earned, based on talent, effort, attendance, attitude, and commitment to the team. Playing time is at the coach’s discretion with effort given to allow each player a chance to play as often as possible. There are no playing time requirements during the playoffs and tournaments.
